This month EURA NOVA has presented the paper “A Distributed Data Mining Framework Accelerated with Graphics Processing Units” at the 2013 CloudCom-ASIA conference in Fuzhou, China. This is the third time that EURA NOVA has published a paper in this conference which is now considered one of the three most important IEEE event covering the topic of Cloud Computing.
TechCrunch Disrupt Europe 2013
Last week Cyrille & François have had the chance to attend the “TechCrunch Disrupt Europe 2013” event in Berlin. This event main topic was the booming new technological and venture opportunities that are materializing for european startups. EURA NOVA’s objectives were to take a look at the “big European picture” and exchange knowledge with brilliant entrepreneurs from all around the world.
Cyrille & François came back boosted by a lot of inspiring stories summarized in this discussion. Enjoy!
IEEE Big Data Santa Clara 2013
This week I was the second IEEE Big Data conference at Santa Clara for presenting our paper “A distributed approach for graph-oriented multidimensional analysis”.
This is now a tradition, I cannot attend a conference without giving you a short summary of the trends and interesting topics of the conference.
ASE/IEEE Big Data Washington 2013
This week I had the chance to attend the ASE/IEEE International conference on Big Data here in Washington DC. EURA NOVA’s presence has been highly remarked as we had two papers: imGraph (big up to @AldemarReynaga) and a paper presenting our empirical performance analysis on some of the major graph database on the current market.
DEXA, DaWaK 2013
I spent the last week at Prague, Czech Republic, to present my paper entitled “An Analytics-Aware Conceptual Model For Evolving Graphs”. More details on the paper could be found in my previous article.
In this post I will focus more on the trends, and share some of the lessons I learned during this nice travel.
Brussels Cassandra Users
This last Tuesday EURA NOVA hosted an interesting Cassandra meetup. Several tech enthusiasts and Cassandra fans have met each other for two talks: I briefly introduced what are the challenges and potential solution when building a distributed graph layer on top of Cassandra, the second talk, presented by Ansar Rafique, was a general introduction to Cassandra and some performance comparisons against MySQL. Ansar is a PhD student at the department of Computer Science of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven – Language technology and middleware taskforce (LANTAM) of the DistriNet research group. The talk presented the result of Ansar’s previous researches at Cinnober Financial Technology about factors influencing Read/Write operation in MySQL and Cassandra.
EBISS 2013 @Dagstuhl
This week I was with Amine and Gary at the 3rd European Business Intelligence Summer School organized in the beautiful Dagstuhl castle in Germany. I was present at the two previous editions, it is a great way to have a condensed overview of top-level research in BI. This year two aspects have caught my attention: (1) the ever increasing skills required to be a good “data worker” and (2) the everlasting ontology and semantic web power.
CLOSER 2013, Aachen
Two weeks ago I attended the 3rd International Conference on Cloud Computing and Services Science, CLOSER 2013 to present a poster about cloud computing services management. I’ve detailed the topic of the poster on my previous blog post available here.
The conference took place in Eurogress, Aachen. Actually, I had the chance to follow the other conferences held in conjunction with Closer:
Big Data Paris 2013
The Big Data Paris 2013 conference was held on April 3rd and 4th. I was quite disappointed by this event. Of course, I knew it was neither a scientific nor an ACM or IEEE event. I was thus coming with a solid mental preparation, ready to see marketing and business presentations.
But what I saw was incredibly far from what I expected. In order to keep this post objective, I will quickly skip the amazingly (Yes, I think this is the right term) poor level of the panel discussions and the talks. Instead, I want to summarize my overall feeling in this post.
EclipseCON Boston 2013
Last week I was presenting a talk at EclipseCON US at Boston US. As usual this is an excellent opportunity to give you an overview of the different trends of the conference.
